New last name, new school, new products!

Quite a few years ago, I started this blog as Laughing and Learning with Ms. B.  At that time, I was teaching in the Georgia Pre-K program and loving the chance to be creative and create so many materials for my classroom.  Despite my best intentions, keeping up with the blog did not happen.  Since my last post, I have gotten engaged and then married to my best friend, purchased our first home, became a dog mom to the most adorable Golden Retriever - Lab Mix, and moved to an a position as an EIP/ESOL teacher at an amazing elementary school!  Over the last two years in my new position, I have worked with students from all elementary grade levels, and been so thankful for all of the amazing resources I have been able to use and learn from via teacher blogs, Teachers Pay Teachers, and Teachers of Instagram.  This summer, I decided to dive back into the world of blogging myself! So join me as I start my sixth year of teaching - this year as an EIP/ESOL teacher working exclusively with 2nd grade! I am also working with some of my amazing co-workers to develop a student led yearbook team as well.  I look forward to sharing my classroom and creations with you as we collaborate online!

Table Supply Caddies

Table Supply Caddies 

Keeping supplies organized in a class of four and five year olds is almost a laughable concept.  Every year, I struggle to find a way that will keep supplies organized, equally distributed and easily accessible.  Last year I began using these 3 compartment caddies that I got from The School Box.  These worked well, but so often students were arguing over which box they wanted and which one had the “good” colors in it.  Also, the OCD side of me absolutely could not stand that these primary color buckets did not match my classroom décor at all!

With some creative inspiration from Pinterest and a trip to my local craft store, I finally got around to tackling this silly problem! 

I was worried about paint sticking to the plastic containers, so I sanded them lightly first, and then coated them with a few coats of plastic spray paint.  I found that it worked much better to do 4-5 light coats because of all the small nooks and crannies in the containers where paint could pool up. 

After they were all painted, I created some very basic labels with my table numbers on them and attached these with ribbon around the bucket.  I printed the same labels again and re-labeled the tables as well.  Now all four buckets are identical and each table has their very own bucket.  So far, this has worked great! Students seem to take more pride in the supplies that belong specifically to their table.  Now we have crayons, scissors, pencils, markers and glue all ready to go at any time...And the fact that they just happen to go great with the classroom colors is just an added bonus J!

Happy Fall Y'all!

Happy Fall Y’all!!

         Fall is my absolute favorite time of year, at school and at home! Football, festivals, the gorgeous weather, pumpkin patch visits…Ahh I just love it all! There are so many fun activities to do in the classroom for the fall that I am super excited about as well.  One of the biggest goals we have in my class during this time is mastering letter recognition.  I try and use as many fun activities to do this…Bingo has become a quick favorite (I believe this might have something to do with the fact that they get to yell when they cover their board J).  The Pre-K teacher in me has a deep need to make everything as theme related as possible, so I have created an apple themed bingo game! This game includes 6 different board options and calling cards.

   In Pre-K, we transform our classroom for each theme.  The fall is my absolute favorite change of environment.  There is so much you can do and incorporate.  My classroom is currently covered in scarecrows, apple orchards, adorable student painted pumpkins, and is now in the process of being turned into a complete Pre-K Pumpkin Patch.  You can see the product in its entirety at my Teachers Pay Teachers Store!

Fall Word Cards

       This rainy weather makes for the perfect day to work on new stuff for my classroom and to share on Teachers Pay Teachers.  Teaching Pre-K, having environmental print everywhere is key.  For each thematic unit, I create colorfully illustrated, simple word cards to represent a variety of words within the theme.  Today, I created a set of word cards for the Fall season.  I included basic fall words (apple, leaf, football), Thanksgiving words, and a few Halloween words as well! Making these has made me even more excited for fall!! It is my absolute favorite time of year…cool weather, fun Holidays, and FOOTBALL!! WOHOO!! This teacher LOVES her Georgia Bulldawgs and cannot wait for another great season! Goo Dawgs!
