Table Supply Caddies
Keeping supplies organized in a class of four and
five year olds is almost a laughable concept.
Every year, I struggle to find a way that will keep supplies organized,
equally distributed and easily accessible.
Last year I began using these 3 compartment caddies that I got from The
School Box. These worked well, but so
often students were arguing over which box they wanted and which one had the
“good” colors in it. Also, the OCD side
of me absolutely could not stand that these primary color buckets did not match
my classroom décor at all!
With some creative inspiration from Pinterest and a
trip to my local craft store, I finally got around to tackling this silly
problem!
I was worried about paint sticking to the plastic containers,
so I sanded them lightly first, and then coated them with a few coats of
plastic spray paint. I found that it
worked much better to do 4-5 light coats because of all the small nooks and
crannies in the containers where paint could pool up.
After they were all painted, I created some very basic labels with my table numbers on them and attached these with ribbon around the bucket. I printed the same labels again and re-labeled the tables as well. Now all four buckets are identical and each table has their very own bucket. So far, this has worked great! Students seem to take more pride in the supplies that belong specifically to their table. Now we have crayons, scissors, pencils, markers and glue all ready to go at any time...And the fact that they just happen to go great with the classroom colors is just an added bonus J!
